Frequently Asked Questions
Practical answers about booking crews, control room work, streaming and how a live production day with starlumki is run.
Questions we are often asked
What kinds of shows do you work on?
We cover concerts, festivals, studio broadcasts and online events for television and streaming. Our crews switch multiple cameras, run replay and graphics, and manage the production on the day. If your format is unusual, describe it and we will say honestly whether it suits our crews.
Can you supply a crew for a single day?
Yes. Some clients need one vision mixer for a single broadcast, while others book a full crew for several days. Tell us the date, the venue type and the number of cameras, and we will suggest the crew size that makes sense rather than the largest one.
Do you design and build control rooms?
We plan and fit out production galleries, including layouts, signal routing and operator positions. Daniel, our technical engineer, usually leads this work. We begin by looking at how your team actually works, then propose a layout and routing plan before anything is installed.
How does a live streaming job work?
Hannah plans the workflow from camera to platform, covering encoding, graphics and monitoring. Before the event we agree the platform settings and run a technical check. During the show someone watches the stream continuously, so problems are caught early.
What should I prepare before getting in touch?
The more detail the better, though a rough outline is enough to start. Useful items are the date, the venue, the expected running order, how many cameras you want and where the output is going. We will ask for anything missing and help fill the gaps.
Do you handle replay and graphics as well as switching?
Our real-time video operators run replay, graphics, playout and screen feeds alongside the vision mixer. Whether you need all of these or only one depends on the show. We would rather staff what you need than add roles that sit idle.
Who is in charge of the crew on the day?
Callum, our head of live production, oversees every show and leads our crews. On larger productions a technical manager coordinates schedules and cues with your own team. You will know who to speak to before the doors open.
How do I start an enquiry?
Use the form on the contact page, or call 0191 384 5127 or email [email protected]. We will read your outline, ask follow-up questions where needed and talk through what a sensible plan looks like before anything is agreed.
